MDOT Announces New Pavement Operations Engineer

LANSING, MI - The Michigan Department of Transportation announced today that Mr. Kevin Kennedy has accepted the position of Pavement Operations Engineer. This position held by Mr. Curtis Bleech until his retirement from state service on November 30, 2020. 

Kevin has served as the HMA Operations Section Engineer Manager for the last 9 years. Prior to his most recent role he served as the Capital Preventive Maintenance (CPM) Engineer, Pavement Selection Engineer, and a Consultant Project Manager in central office. While in the CPM role he was also the Department’s Warranty Engineer and worked a season in the Lansing TSC Construction area on a cross training engagement. Kevin started his career with the Department in the Engineer Development Program (EDP) serving one year in Hydraulics and Road Design. He then moved to Utility Design and Road Design.  

Kevin has been a member of several Department and national committees throughout his career. He is currently the leading voice for the Department on the HMA Operations Committee. He presented a paper at the first National Pavement Preservation Conference in 2005 in Kansas City and the paper was published. Kevin also served as the chair of the Midwestern Pavement Preservation Partnership and had an article published in the Pavement Preservation Journal in the summer of 2011.

Kevin has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Michigan and a Master of Science Degree in Civil Engineering, with an environmental concentration, from Wayne State University.  He earned a Master's Certificate in Project Management from George Washington University. Kevin is also a registered professional engineer in the State of Michigan.
