Best Practices for RAP and RAS Management

Every time an asphalt road is built, material is put down that can later be mined to build a new pavement. This is part of what makes asphalt pavements sustainable pavements. But ensuring we get the most value from incorporating RAP into new pavement mixtures means paying attention to details from milling to production. The latest NAPA publication,  Best Practices for RAP and RAS Management (Quality Improvement Series 129), provides comprehensive guidance on the management of RAP from the time of collection through processing and storage, sampling and testing, and production. Best management practices for asphalt shingles used in paving mixtures is also covered. The book was written by NCAT Director Randy West, and was produced through the NAPA-FHWA cooperative agreement. QIP 129 is available for free as a high-quality PDF electronic book through the NAPA Online Store.

Best Practices in Work Zone Safety (Co-Sponsored by ARTBA) Feb. 25, 2:00 p.m. EST (1.5 PDH hours)

Operating close to traffic and around complex machines with limited sight lines is inherently dangerous. This webinar will focus on setting-up work zones that protect workers, including special considerations for nighttime paving. Hear from industry pioneers about how their companies and the industry are developing best practices to train construction crews in recognizing and eliminating these hazards.

Pavement Interlayers for Long-Term Performance
March 8, 2:00 pm EST (1 PDH hour)

Pavement interlayers can mitigate distress and promote long-term performance. For road owners and agencies making investment decisions for their infrastructure, pavement interlayers offer the opportunity to delay and reduce the severity of possible flexible asphalt pavement cracking by reducing the pathway for water to enter pavements, and provide a moisture barrier that maintains the integrity and load-bearing capacity of the aggregate base.
