Our 53rd Annual Asphalt Paving Conference will be held on February 25 & 26, 2009 at the Radisson Plaza Hotel & Suites in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The theme of this year's conference is "Asphalt Pavements for Sustainability, Performance and Value".

Our popular Reception on Wednesday, Feb. 25th from 5 to 7 pm will give you an opportunity to visit with Exhibitors while enjoying great hors d'oeuvres and beverages. We are looking forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday.
On Thursday February 26th, the conference continues with the General session at 9am featuring a keynote address by Mike Acott, President of NAPA. A full day of educational sessions and exhibits continue through 2:00 pm.

APAM Celebrates Holiday Season and Award Winning Teams
On December 11th, the association hosted our Holiday Banquet and the presentation of the APAM / MDOT Asphalt Paving Awards at the Kellogg Center on the campus of Michigan State University. It was a very special evening as we celebrated the 32nd anniversary of our Asphalt Paving Awards Program.
Over 300 people enjoyed the festivities including representatives from MDOT, APAM members, local agencies and consultants. The evening was filled with frosty beverages, good food and great conversation as industry partners celebrated the upcoming Holiday Season and the honored the award winning teams.
The evening's program began with Executive Director John Becsey welcoming the attendees and introducing special guests.
MDOT's Chief Operations Officer, Larry Tibbits offered opening remarks on the successes of MDOT's partnership with the industry including the Construction Quality Partnership and the importance of the APAM/ MDOT Paving Awards.
Then, newly elected APAM President Andy Schmidt presented framed certificates to the representatives from 31 HMA plants that qualified for a NAPA Diamond Achievement Commendation. click here
This year's banquet also included a special recognition to Dan Hazen, recently retired after 17 years of service as Program Coordinator for the Institute for Construction Education and Training at Ferris State University. Click here for more details

APAM Director of Engineering Chuck Mills gave out a Special Commendation for the M-115 , Highways for Life Project and a Perpetual Pavement Recognition for M-24 in MDOT's Bay Region. Click here for M-115 , Highways for Life Project details

And to complete the festivities, Chuck Mills announced the winners of the 2008 APAM /MDOT Asphalt Paving Awards as the plagues were presented by MDOT's Larry Tibbits and APAM President Andy Schmidt.
For 2008, a total of 44 projects were evaluated in 9 different award categories. The judging committee visited each of the nominated projects, traveling about 3500 miles in 9 days. Each project was rated on a scale of 1-10 in the following nine quality areas: Appearance, Ride, Texture Uniformity, Longitudinal and Transverse Joints, Edges, Utility Cover Adjustments and Degree of Difficulty.
Congratulations to the all of the people who worked on the 13 projects that received these coveted awards for 2008.

Elections were held at the Annual Meeting of the Members on December 11th. The following will serve as your new Officers and Directors for 2009:
