Smoothness Matters

What does the traveling public care about? - Smooth Roads.

A national survey of motorists funded by the Federal Highway Administration showed that a smooth ride is the top priority of the traveling public.

The traveling public may be less aware, however, that smooth roads also save them money. Roughness has an adverse effect on vehicle operating costs such as fuel and oil consumption, tire wear, maintenance, and depreciation.

Asphalt will consistently give the driving public the smooth, quiet ride they have come to expect. Smooth pavements save fuel, save vehicle operating costs, and last longer. Asphalt pavements are smoother and are easier to keep smoother than concrete pavements.

APA Launches New Website

The Asphalt Pavement Alliance (APA) announced April 26th the launch of their new website AsphaltRoads.org . The new site is full of useful information targeted to a wide range of audiences, from sophisticated DOT engineers to top-level policy makers, elected officials, and the general public. The information on the site is organized into the general subject areas of Economics, Environment, Engineering, and Policy.

The site houses all the publications and materials the APA has produced this year, including the policy white paper, the Perpetual Pavement synthesis, the brochure on fuel savings from smooth roads, and a flyer promoting the use of LCCA Express software.

APAM has also launched "The Asphalt Report" which will put these documents before you shortly after APA releases them. We hope you find the information useful.
